A tragic incident has struck Gweru after a commuter omnibus carrying pupils from Matongo Primary School reportedly caught fire just outside the school premises on Wednesday.
An unconfirmed number of pupils are feared to have lost their lives after the vehicle was suddenly engulfed in flames under circumstances that are still being investigated.
Reports indicate that some of the victims may have been burnt beyond recognition, although authorities are yet to release official casualty figures.
Gweru Mayor Councillor Martin Chivhoko confirmed the incident and said more details will be provided as investigations continue.
Emergency services and relevant authorities are currently working at the scene to establish the cause of the fire and determine the full extent of the tragedy.
