A nurse has been removed from the nursing register after admitting to fraudulently claiming nearly £20,000 and hundreds of hours of time off for shifts she never worked.
Faith Chareka, who was employed in an NHS emergency department, admitted falsifying 50 work shifts over a period of more than two years.
Court proceedings revealed that she unlawfully received £19,575 and accumulated approximately 540 hours of Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) through the fraudulent claims.
The court heard that the misconduct was deliberate and repeated, with the financial losses affecting an NHS trust already facing budget pressures.
Chareka received an 18-month suspended prison sentence, while the Nursing and Midwifery Council ruled that the seriousness of the offences warranted her removal from the nursing profession.
The council stated that striking her off the register was the only appropriate sanction given the scale and nature of the misconduct.
