Two members of the Apostolic Faith Mission of Zimbabwe have approached the High Court seeking to nullify the church’s May 2025 leadership elections.

The applicants, Daniel Mhlanga and Dennis Maposa, argue that the election of President Dr Cossam Chiangwa, Deputy President Reverend Amon Chinyemba, Secretary-General Dr Nathan Nhira, and National Administrator Shepherd Sebata violated the church’s constitutional age limit for candidates.

According to court papers, the applicants contend that church regulations set the maximum qualifying age at 65 years and that an amendment raising the limit to 70 years was not adopted in accordance with constitutional procedures.

They are asking the court to declare the amendment invalid, set aside the election results, and order fresh elections within 90 days.

The matter was filed at the High Court in Harare under case number HCH2288/26 and remains before the courts.

Dr Chiangwa confirmed the existence of the case but stated that he would not comment further while the matter is still before the judiciary.
