The City of Harare has moved to reassure residents following the circulation of a document on social media titled “Report on Regularisation and Demolitions of Illegal Structures in Harare.”
In a public statement, the local authority clarified that the document is not an approved policy but an internal working draft that was never intended for public release.
City officials said the premature circulation of the draft has caused unnecessary confusion and concern among residents regarding land ownership and property regulations.
The council emphasized that any future verification, regularisation, or enforcement exercises will be carried out in accordance with government directives, the law, and established due process.
Residents have also been warned against occupying state or council land illegally or purchasing property from unauthorized individuals.
The City of Harare encouraged members of the public to seek information from official council offices and channels to avoid being misled by misinformation circulating online.
