Violent unrest erupted in Belfast on Tuesday night after a Sudanese refugee was charged in connection with a knife attack that left a man seriously injured.
Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets of the Northern Irish capital, with roads blocked and several vehicles and buildings set alight as tensions escalated.
Emergency services responded to multiple incidents while residents were evacuated from affected areas.
The protests followed the charging of a 30-year-old Sudanese man accused of attacking a man in his 40s, who sustained serious injuries after being repeatedly slashed in the head and neck.
The suspect faces charges including attempted murder, possession of a bladed weapon in a public place, and making threats to kill.
Police confirmed that the accused arrived in the United Kingdom in 2023 after travelling through Paris and Dublin, while the UK Home Office said he holds refugee status and a legal residence permit valid until 2028.
The incident has intensified debate around immigration and asylum policies across the United Kingdom.
