The educational community in Zaka has been left shocked after a 47-year-old teacher was sentenced to prison for possessing illegal drugs.
Shadreck Chitsama, a teacher at Jinjika Secondary School, appeared before Zaka Magistrate Grace Tupiri on 28 May 2026 and was sentenced to an effective eight months in jail after being found with dagga and crystal methamphetamine.
The arrest followed a police operation based on a tip-off regarding suspected drug activities at the school. Officers searched Chitsama and allegedly found a sachet of dagga in his pocket before conducting a further search at his staff quarters.
Police reportedly recovered additional quantities of dagga and crystal meth hidden in various locations around the residence.
The court sentenced Chitsama to prison after convicting him on drug-related charges, with part of the sentence suspended on condition of good behaviour.
Authorities continue to urge the public to report drug-related activities as efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking intensify across the country.
