The decision follows widespread criticism and public pressure from Zimbabweans who argued that hosting South African artists was insensitive amid ongoing anti-immigrant tensions and safety concerns affecting Zimbabweans in South Africa.
Many social media users called on the company to redirect funds toward humanitarian support for citizens seeking to return home, with some describing the timing of the event as inappropriate given the current circumstances.
Although Mafikizolo have been removed from promotional material, the concert is still expected to go ahead with local artists, including Winky D, Killer T, and Flying Bantu.
Econet has not issued a detailed explanation regarding the change beyond acknowledging public concerns surrounding the event.
