Kenya’s Transport Cabinet Secretary, Davis Chirchir, has dismissed claims that a company linked to Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has been awarded a role in the upgrade of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Speaking to the media on June 18, Chirchir said the company mentioned in recent reports was not among the firms that submitted bids for the project.

He emphasized that the procurement process is being conducted in accordance with the law and includes bid evaluations, due diligence, approvals, and compliance with public procurement regulations.

The clarification follows reports alleging that a company associated with Chivayo had secured a stake in the proposed KSh375 billion airport expansion project.

Kenyan authorities maintain that the tender process remains transparent and lawful.
