A grieving Harare family is demanding answers following the death of 34-year-old Lizzy Katsiga at Parirenyatwa Hospital and the confusion surrounding the fate of her unborn child.
According to reports, Lizzy died during a medical procedure, and her husband, Tawanda Sengu, was initially informed that both his wife and the baby had passed away.
However, while funeral arrangements for Lizzy were underway, Tawanda reportedly received a call from another doctor asking him to return to the hospital to collect the infant’s body.
Upon arriving at the hospital, he says staff attempted to hand over the body of a toddler instead of a newborn, prompting him to refuse and demand a DNA test to establish the identity of the remains.
The matter has since been reported to the police, who have confirmed that investigations are underway.
Parirenyatwa Hospital had not issued an official comment on the matter at the time of reporting.
