A 22-year-old woman from the United States says she lost both legs after a horrific boat propeller accident during a graduation trip in the Bahamas.
According to a lawsuit linked to a Carnival Cruise excursion, Hannah Smith alleges she was encouraged by staff to jump into the water after consuming large amounts of alcohol during a Catamaran Ferry trip to Pearl Island Beach.
Smith claims bar staff served her excessive amounts of rum punch and drugs during the excursion before she entered the water near the end of the trip.
Court documents state that while attempting to climb back onto the vessel, she suddenly felt herself being pulled underneath the boat by the propeller.
The accident reportedly resulted in catastrophic injuries that led to the amputation of both legs.
The lawsuit alleges negligence connected to the excursion and claims staff encouraged unsafe behavior while passengers were intoxicated.
