Zimbabwe’s new Lands Minister, Vangelis Haritatos, has warned members of the public against purchasing land through illegal “sabhuku deals.”

Haritatos said only the government has the legal authority to allocate State land, stressing that village heads and land barons selling land without approval will face action.

The warning comes as authorities intensify a nationwide crackdown targeting illegal land allocations and unauthorized settlements.

Government says the operation will include land verification exercises, enforcement operations, mapping processes, and public awareness campaigns aimed at protecting citizens from fraudulent land deals.

Officials have urged people to verify land ownership and approval documents before making any purchases.
