The Zimbabwe Republic Police says it has intensified a nationwide operation targeting stock theft and the illegal sale of meat across the country.
The operation, code-named “Batai Mbhavha Dzemombe Nembudzi / Flash Out Cattle and Goat Rustlers / Bambani Amasela Ezinkomo Lembuzi,” was launched following a police directive issued on April 28, 2026.
According to police, 415 suspects have so far been arrested in connection with stock theft cases.
Authorities also confirmed that 2,997 other individuals were apprehended for related offences including illegal meat vending, operating without valid butchery licences, and failing to produce stock movement permits.
Police said the operation has resulted in the recovery of 43 cattle, 35 goats, 13 donkeys, one pig, and 54 chickens.
Several non-compliant business premises were also shut down, including 205 butcheries and 125 food outlets.
The ZRP has commended members of the public for cooperating with investigations and urged citizens to continue reporting suspicious livestock or meat activities.
