The Zimbabwe Republic Police has carried out a major enforcement operation in the Mazowe mining areas targeting violent crime and illegal mining activities.
Authorities said the operation focused on offences including murder, robbery, stock theft, and environmental destruction caused by unregulated mining.
The sweep covered several high-activity areas including Storeys and Jumbo Mine, leading to the arrest of 79 suspects.
Among those arrested were four individuals linked to the destruction of railway infrastructure, as well as both local and foreign nationals allegedly involved in illegal alluvial mining.
Police also recovered large amounts of machinery and equipment used in the mining operations.
Items seized include 30 excavators, 10 generators, seven hammer mills, six windlers, water tanks, and submissive pumps.
The ZRP said illegal mining activities in the area have caused severe environmental damage, affecting water systems and agricultural land.
Authorities say operations against criminal and environmentally destructive activities will continue across the country.
