South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned recent violent protests and criminal acts targeting foreign nationals, saying such actions do not represent the views of South Africans or government policy.

In a statement released on Monday, Ramaphosa said some individuals were exploiting the frustrations of poor communities while engaging in unlawful activities including checking identification documents and searching private property.

He stressed that these actions would not be tolerated and emphasized that both citizens and foreign nationals living in South Africa must obey the law.

The president also addressed concerns around illegal immigration, saying government was handling the issue through lawful measures aimed at protecting national security, social stability, and public services.

Ramaphosa stated that undocumented migration was placing pressure on healthcare, housing, municipal services, and the labour market.

According to government figures, the Border Management Authority stopped around 450,000 people from entering South Africa illegally during the past financial year.

He added that South Africa remains committed to African solidarity, regional cooperation, and rejecting xenophobia, intolerance, and violence.
