Bellarmine Mugabe, the son of former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe, and his co-accused Tobias Matonhodze are expected to be sentenced today in South Africa.
Mugabe pleaded guilty to being in the country illegally and pointing a firearm. The firearm charge relates to a separate incident that reportedly happened two weeks before the shooting of his security guard, Sipho Mahlangu, at his Hyde Park home.
Matonhodze pleaded guilty to attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, violating immigration laws, and possession of ammunition.
Court proceedings also revealed that Sipho Mahlangu was compensated following the incident.
While the defence has requested a non-custodial sentence, the state argues that both accused showed no remorse.
Prosecutors also highlighted that the firearm used during the incident has still not been recovered.
The sentencing is expected to draw significant public attention due to the high-profile nature of the case.
