Veteran broadcaster Tichafa Augustine Matambanadzo, popularly known as Tich Mata, appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court facing culpable homicide charges linked to a fatal road accident that happened in 2024.
According to the State, Matambanadzo was driving along Samora Machel Avenue when he allegedly struck 44-year-old Daniel Uchena, who was crossing the road.
Prosecutors say the collision occurred as Uchena was walking south across the busy avenue.
The impact was reportedly so severe that the pedestrian died instantly at the scene.
Investigations suggest the broadcaster may have failed to exercise proper caution or maintain a safe speed, which allegedly led to the tragic loss of life.
During the court proceedings, the details of the 2024 accident were revisited as the State sought to establish the basis for the charge.
The well-known media personality remained composed as the allegations were formally read before the court.
