The Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs has moved to dissolve the board of Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (ZIMURA) with immediate effect, following months of escalating tensions and governance disputes.

The intervention is aimed at restoring order, accountability, and financial transparency within the association after serious concerns were raised over fiduciary failures and board legitimacy.

According to the ministry’s findings, concerns highlighted in the recent CIPZ report were validated, including allegations linked to financial transparency, disputed elections, and the sale of association property.

The outgoing board, led by Alexio Gwenzi and deputy Henry Makombe, has been ordered to stop all duties immediately.

Board members have also been instructed to hand over all documents and materials to an interim administrator within seven days.

The interim administration will now oversee day-to-day operations while government works on a broader systemic overhaul aimed at protecting the interests of Zimbabwean artists.

The move has been welcomed by several members, who described it as a victory for creators and professional integrity in the music industry.
