US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has asked Army Chief of Staff Randy A. George to step down with immediate effect, according to Pentagon officials. ()

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed that General George “will be retiring from his position,” though no official reason was given for the abrupt decision. ()

George, 61, was first appointed in 2023 under former President Joe Biden and has served in major deployments including Iraq and Afghanistan.

As Army chief, he was credited with efforts to streamline operations, remove redundancies, and integrate modern technologies such as low-cost interceptor drones and AI-powered targeting systems.

The sudden leadership shake-up comes at a sensitive time as the US and Israel remain engaged in the ongoing conflict involving Iran. ()
