Nandipha Magudumana is mourning the passing of her mother, Nokuzola Sikeleni, who died on Thursday in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal.
Magudumana remains in custody at Bizzah Makhate Correctional Centre, where she is awaiting trial in connection with the escape of Thabo Bester.
Her father, Zolile Sikeleni, confirmed that funeral arrangements are currently underway and expressed sadness that his daughter is unable to be with the family during this time.
According to the Department of Correctional Services, Magudumana may apply for compassionate leave to attend the funeral, subject to approval based on security and other considerations.
Her legal representative has also arranged psychological support as the family navigates the loss.
The case continues as Magudumana awaits further court proceedings.
