The International Olympic Committee has announced new eligibility rules for women’s events starting from the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Under the new policy, participation in the women’s category will be limited to biological females, with eligibility determined through a “once in a lifetime” sex verification test.
IOC president Kirsty Coventry stated that the decision is guided by medical experts and aims to ensure fairness in competition.
The policy will exclude transgender women and athletes with differences in sexual development (DSD) from competing in women’s events.
The announcement is expected to spark global debate around inclusion, fairness, and the future of competitive sport.
