Sam Scottfield Matanda, a 48-year-old Bulawayo resident, has been granted bail following a viral altercation with a parking marshal.

Matanda appeared before Provincial Magistrate Themba Chimiso, where he faced assault charges linked to an incident that occurred earlier this month. He was granted bail set at US$200.

The case stems from an altercation on March 18 at the intersection of Leopold Takawira Road and Fife Street, involving a dispute with Michael Ntini, a parking marshal employed by Tendy Three Investments.

According to prosecutors, Matanda allegedly grabbed the marshal by the collar before slapping and shoving him during the confrontation. The incident was recorded and widely circulated on social media.

Matanda pleaded not guilty, with his defense arguing that the altercation followed threats made against him.

As part of his bail conditions, he has been ordered to remain at his residence and avoid any contact with state witnesses.

The matter has been postponed to March 30, when trial proceedings are expected to begin.
