Award-winning Zimbabwean rapper Ti Gonzi, born Tinashe Gonzara, has been sentenced to 10 months in prison following a series of legal troubles involving drug possession and traffic violations.
The “Kure” hitmaker appeared before a magistrate after being found in possession of illicit substances and driving without a valid license. The court ruled that Gonzara will serve an effective eight months behind bars, after suspending two months of the sentence on condition of good behavior.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the rapper was ordered to pay a fine of US$100 for driving without a valid license, along with penalties for three related traffic offenses.

The legal saga began on February 2, 2026, when Gonzara was reportedly seen driving his Mercedes-Benz through a red traffic light at Mupedzanhamo in Mbare. Constable Katukavarimi intercepted the vehicle and attempted to escort him to ZRP Mbare Traffic Station for processing.
According to court proceedings, the musician allegedly refused to comply and drove off, leading officers on a brief pursuit toward the Coca-Cola Granite area along Cripps Road. The chase ended at the Cripps Road intersection, where another officer, Constable Gutusa, assisted in stopping the vehicle.
Upon searching the car, police discovered quantities of cannabis (commonly known as “dagga”) and Broncleer cough syrup. He was immediately arrested and charged.

During sentencing, the magistrate stressed the seriousness of both the drug possession charges and the alleged disregard for traffic safety. The court also ordered that the seized substances be forfeited and destroyed.
