Former Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has confirmed that he was involved in a road traffic accident in Harare involving a pedestrian. In a public statement issued shortly after the incident, Mliswa assured the public that he is safe and that all necessary procedures with police and medical personnel were followed.
According to Mliswa, the accident occurred when a pedestrian, allegedly under the influence, unexpectedly entered the roadway and made contact with his vehicle. He stated that the individual sustained minor injuries and was able to walk at the scene before being taken to a local hospital for further medical assessment. The pedestrian was reported to be in stable condition at the time of transfer.
Mliswa said he immediately notified authorities and remained at the scene to assist while emergency services responded. After cooperating with officials and ensuring the individual received medical attention, he later returned home. He also indicated that he is monitoring the situation and the recovery of the pedestrian.
Beyond the details of the accident, Mliswa used the moment to raise concerns about what he described as increasing drug and substance abuse among young people, particularly in Harare’s Central Business District. He suggested that the incident reflects a broader social challenge that requires urgent national intervention and programs focused on youth support and rehabilitation.
Police investigations into the incident are expected to continue as part of standard procedure.
