The Government of Zimbabwe has issued a strong warning to traditional leaders involved in the illegal sale of State land, stressing that those found guilty will face arrest and prosecution.

The caution comes amid a surge in unlawful land transactions, particularly in areas surrounding Harare Metropolitan Province. Authorities say the illegal allocation and sale of State land has contributed to the mushrooming of unplanned settlements, land disputes, and infrastructure challenges in peri-urban communities.

Government officials emphasized that traditional leaders do not have the authority to sell State land, and any such transactions are considered criminal offenses. Law enforcement agencies have reportedly intensified investigations into suspected cases, with a focus on curbing land barons and restoring order in affected areas.

The government reiterated its commitment to protecting public land and ensuring that all allocations follow proper legal and administrative procedures. Citizens have also been urged to verify land ownership and approvals through relevant authorities before making any payments to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.

The warning signals a renewed crackdown on illegal land deals as authorities seek to bring accountability and transparency to land administration across the country.
