A 34-year-old man, Romeo Madododo, has been arrested by the City of Harare municipal police for allegedly posing as a municipal police officer and extorting money from small business operators.
Madododo was apprehended on Tuesday just outside Town House after municipal police officers laid a trap and caught him in the act. According to authorities, he was allegedly in the middle of an illegal transaction with one of his victims when officers moved in and arrested him.
Investigations reveal that Madododo is accused of threatening small traders and demanding bribes while falsely presenting himself as a municipal police officer. His actions reportedly caused fear and financial loss among vulnerable small business operators trying to earn a living.
Following his arrest, Madododo was handed over to the Zimbabwe Republic Police and is currently being detained at Harare Central Police Station. He is expected to face charges of fraud and impersonation.
Municipal authorities have since appealed to members of the public who may have been targeted or extorted by the suspect to come forward and report their cases at Harare Central Police Station as investigations continue.
