The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested Geviza Fadzai (35) of Village 2, Fair Range, Mkwasine, following the brutal killing of her three-year-old daughter in an incident that has shocked the nation.
Authorities say the crime occurred on 25 November 2025, when Fadzai allegedly stabbed the child in the neck with a knife. She reportedly attempted to conceal the murder by giving conflicting accounts — first claiming to a neighbour that her daughter had been attacked by four unknown assailants, and later telling the village head the child had died of natural causes in an effort to fast-track the burial.
The deception began to fall apart during burial preparations when community members noticed a deep cut on the child’s neck. A report was immediately filed with ZRP Mkwasine, leading to a full investigation.
Police say the suspect ultimately killed her daughter to pursue marriage with her new boyfriend, who allegedly refused to marry her as long as she had a child.
Fadzai has since been taken into custody and is expected to appear in court soon. The victim’s body has been taken to Chiredzi General Hospital for a post-mortem as investigations continue.
