The University of Zimbabwe’s Department of Biomedical Sciences has made an appeal to the public to consider donating their bodies to medical science, highlighting a serious shortage of cadavers that is affecting the training of future health professionals.
According to the Anatomy Unit, body donations remain very low despite the growing number of students enrolling in medical and health-related programmes. Cadavers play a crucial role in helping medical students learn anatomy, which forms the foundation for training doctors, nurses, and other healthcare practitioners.
The university is encouraging members of the public to register as body donors in order to support the advancement of medical education and improve the quality of healthcare in Zimbabwe.
