ZIFA has dismissed the Premier Soccer League’s proposal to suspend relegation for the 2025 season, firmly stating that four teams will still be relegated when the campaign concludes on 23 November 2025.
This decision overturns the PSL’s earlier announcement, in which the league indicated that no club would be relegated this year as part of its plan to expand to a 22-team league in 2026.
ZIFA maintained that the PSL’s proposal “will not stand,” reinforcing that relegation remains an essential component of competitive football and league integrity.
The latest ruling has created uncertainty for clubs previously expecting safety under the suspended-relegation plan, and the battle for survival is now fully back on.
More updates are expected as discussions between ZIFA and the PSL continue.
