Popular music producer Fantan has clarified that while he didn’t start Zimdancehall, he played a major role in making the genre a household name across Zimbabwe.
Speaking about the evolution of the movement, Fantan credited the rise of Zimdancehall to the iconic riddims he and Levels produced at their legendary studio, Chillspot Records. Among them were fan favorites like Zimboflava, One Clan, and Pure Niceness, which featured some of the biggest names in the game — Soul Jah Love, Seh Calaz, Kinnah, Ras Pompy, and Bounty Lisa.
Fantan says it was during this golden era that people truly began to identify and call the sound “Zimdancehall.”
His contribution, alongside Chillspot’s influence, not only transformed local music but also helped create a platform that launched countless artists to fame and cemented Zimdancehall as a defining part of Zimbabwe’s modern music culture. 🎧🔥
