The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the brutal robbery and murder of prominent businessman Joseph Mutangadura, which occurred on August 17, 2025, at the Mutangadura Hideout in Ruwa.

Police have confirmed the arrest of a second suspect, identified as Given Mandizadza (34), bringing the total number of suspects in custody to two. Mandizadza was apprehended on October 13, 2025, in a successful operation carried out by CID Homicide detectives after a public tip-off. The suspect was cornered and arrested at the intersection of Robert Mugabe Road and Julius Nyerere Way in Harare.

Upon searching the suspect’s vehicle — a white Isuzu — detectives made a shocking discovery. Two pistols (one loaded with seven live rounds), three .32 long live cartridges, two fuses, and two explosive devices were recovered. Authorities also found a “baby grinder” and a black monkey hat in the car, suggesting potential links to other criminal activities.

The discovery of the weapons and explosives has raised concerns about the scale and sophistication of the criminal operation behind Mutangadura’s murder.

This arrest follows the earlier detention of Phillip Mutasa (38) on October 4, 2025, also connected to the same case. The victim, 67-year-old Joseph Mutangadura, was killed during a violent robbery at his property on Dunstan Road, an incident that sent shockwaves across the Ruwa community and the nation at large.

The ZRP has expressed appreciation for the public’s assistance in providing critical leads and has urged anyone with additional information related to the case to come forward. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to uncover the full extent of the criminal network involved.

📢 ZRP Statement:

“We commend the public for their cooperation and the CID Homicide team for their swift and professional response. Justice will prevail.”
