HARARE – State Steps In Following Tragic Limpopo Bus Crash

The Government of Zimbabwe has appealed to the next of kin of those who perished in the DNC Coaches bus crash in Limpopo, South Africa, to come forward and assist in identifying their relatives.

The tragic accident, which occurred on Sunday evening, claimed more than 40 lives, leaving families across Zimbabwe in mourning.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works announced that it will be providing transport for affected families to travel to South Africa for the identification process.

“The government is releasing buses to carry the relatives of the victims to South Africa this Wednesday,” the statement read.
“The buses will depart from the National Disaster Management Centre at Makombe Building in Harare at 12 noon.”

State-Assisted Funerals and Medical Support

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared the tragedy a state of disaster, authorising the government to provide state-assisted funerals for the deceased and cover medical expenses for the injured survivors.

“The nation mourns with the bereaved families during this painful time,” the statement said.

Government officials, working closely with South African authorities, have begun the process of repatriating the remains of the victims once identifications are confirmed.

Background of the Accident

The fatal crash involved a DNC Coaches bus that was travelling from South Africa to Zimbabwe when it plunged into a ravine in Limpopo Province. Early reports indicate that poor visibility and mechanical failure may have contributed to the accident.

Authorities in both countries continue to investigate the cause of the tragedy.
