Bulawayo – Parliament in Mourning

The Nkulumane Member of Parliament, Honourable Desire Moyo, has died following a tragic road accident that occurred in the early hours of Friday morning.

The news has been confirmed by Emakhandeni-Luveve legislator, Honourable Discent Collins Bajila, who revealed that the fatal accident took place near Shangani, along a stretch of road known for frequent wildlife crossings.

Accident Involving an Elephant

According to initial reports, the vehicle carrying several parliamentarians was involved in a collision with an elephant, resulting in the death of Honourable Moyo.
The full details of the crash remain under investigation, but sources indicate that the impact occurred suddenly when the elephant appeared on the road, giving the driver little time to react.

Hon. Bajila confirmed the tragedy, saying:

“It is with great sadness that I confirm the passing of Honourable Desire Moyo following an accident near Shangani. The vehicle they were travelling in hit an elephant. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and constituents during this difficult time.”

National Shock and Tributes

The news of Moyo’s death has sent shockwaves through Zimbabwe’s political community, with fellow parliamentarians and citizens expressing condolences and disbelief.

Honourable Moyo was known for his dedication to representing the Nkulumane constituency, advocating for youth empowerment, community development, and social justice.

Colleagues described him as “a humble and passionate leader” who served his people with integrity and compassion.

Wildlife-Linked Road Accidents a Growing Concern

The tragic incident has once again highlighted the risks of road travel through wildlife-prone areas in Zimbabwe.
Several major routes pass near animal habitats, increasing the chances of collisions — particularly during early morning or nighttime hours.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution on such roads, especially in areas like Shangani, Hwange, and Lupane, where wildlife movement is common.
