President Emmerson Mnangagwa has ordered government departments and relevant agencies to urgently strengthen road safety measures following a series of deadly accidents that claimed 24 lives across Zimbabwe within five days.
The latest tragedy occurred along the Gokwe-Kwekwe Road, where a head-on collision between a bus and a haulage truck killed 10 people.
President Mnangagwa expressed concern over the rising number of fatal accidents, saying the situation demands immediate and coordinated action from authorities.
He directed officials to implement tougher measures against reckless driving and remove un-roadworthy vehicles from the country’s roads.
The President also instructed government to accelerate the re-establishment of road maintenance units and ensure urgent repairs of damaged highways and roads affected by recent weather conditions.
He extended condolences to families who lost loved ones and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the accidents.
