Professor David Simbi To Bid Farewell To Academia

Professor David Simbi, a respected metallurgical engineer and academic leader, is set to bid farewell to Chinhoyi University of Technology on May 29 after decades of service to Zimbabwe’s education sector.

Professor Simbi graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Applied Chemistry from the University of Portsmouth in 1981 before earning a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Metallurgy from the University of Leeds in 1985.

After working briefly at the Zimbabwe Iron and Steel Company, he joined the University of Zimbabwe in 1988 as a lecturer in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering, where he built a distinguished academic career.

In 2005, he was appointed Pro Vice Chancellor at Chinhoyi University of Technology before becoming Vice Chancellor in 2007.

Throughout his career, Professor Simbi received numerous academic honours and presented research papers at both local and international conferences.

Chinhoyi University of Technology will officially honour one of Zimbabwe’s most influential academic figures during a farewell ceremony on May 29.
