The Zimbabwe Republic Police has released the names of 55 individuals recently convicted of various drug-related offences as authorities intensify the nationwide crackdown on illegal substances.
According to police, the convicted offenders received prison sentences ranging from four months to 51 months for crimes involving dagga, crystal meth, unregistered medicines, and Broncleer cough syrup.
The cases were recorded across several areas including Harare, Bulawayo, Gwanda, Filabusi, Wedza, Marondera, Chivhu, and Binga.
One of the heaviest sentences was handed to 31-year-old Brian Siziba of Bulawayo, who received 51 months in prison for the unlawful possession of dagga, crystal meth, and unregistered medicines.
Police also confirmed that Kudakwashe Chingani and Makanyara Sibanda of Harare were each sentenced to four years behind bars for unlawful possession of dagga.
Commissioner P. Nyathi said the ZRP remains committed to naming and shaming drug suppliers and traffickers as part of efforts to disrupt the country’s illegal drug trade.
