Bulawayo residents can finally breathe a sigh of relief following the arrest of Joseph Phiri, one of the city’s most wanted robbery suspects.
The 28-year-old is linked to a string of violent home invasions in Mahatshula that reportedly took place between December 2025 and May 2026.
Police say Phiri was part of a dangerous syndicate that used pistols, knives, and sjamboks to terrorize families during robberies.
Authorities revealed that after his alleged accomplices were arrested and sent to Khami Prison, Phiri reportedly formed another gang to continue the crime spree in Mahatshula East.
One of the gang’s daylight robbery attempts recently went viral on social media, sparking outrage across the country.
National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest and thanked members of the public for providing information that led to the breakthrough.
Police are still searching for remaining suspects identified as Pauros Hadebe, Oscar Ndlovu, and Jomo Chomu.
