Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of late former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, has been ordered to leave South Africa following a high-profile legal case in Johannesburg.

A local court delivered a dual conviction that includes both heavy financial penalties and immediate consequences regarding his residency status.

Mugabe was fined R400,000 for an incident involving the pointing of a firearm, with the charge carrying an alternative sentence of 24 months in prison.

He also received an additional R200,000 fine or 18 months of imprisonment for violating South Africa’s Immigration Act.

Court proceedings confirmed that he had been staying in the country illegally, leading to the decision for his immediate deportation to Zimbabwe after sentencing.

The case has attracted major public attention due to the Mugabe family name and the seriousness of the charges involved.

The ruling now brings an end to one of the most closely watched legal battles involving a high-profile Zimbabwean figure in South Africa.
