Highlanders FC head coach Benjani Mwaruwari has reportedly gone three months without receiving his salary, highlighting a deepening financial and administrative crisis at the Bulawayo-based club.

Reports indicate that the former Manchester City and Portsmouth striker, known as “The Undertaker,” has only been paid once in January since taking over at Bosso earlier this year.

Beyond unpaid wages, the club is also said to owe Mwaruwari a laptop and a mobile phone, which were part of his contractual agreement to assist with his technical duties.

The situation has worsened amid reported sponsorship payment breakdowns and internal friction within the club.

Recent reports suggest Highlanders recently suspended CEO Denzil Mnkandla over financial irregularities linked to a training camp in Botswana, adding further pressure to the club’s administration.

On the pitch, Highlanders have endured a frustrating start to the 2026 season, recording seven consecutive draws in their opening league matches.

The pressure increased further after a 1-0 defeat to Scottland FC in the Independence Cup final, where a second-half goal from Knowledge Musona sealed the result.

Mwaruwari recently admitted that the team must go back to the drawing board as fans continue to demand better results.
