In Norton, 25-year-old innovator Simbarashe Masamba is developing a practical solution to electricity shortages in rural communities.
After leaving school at A Level, Masamba focused on invention and created a small water-powered generator that can provide lighting and charge mobile phones, especially in remote areas where access to electricity is limited.
He says the system can be scaled up by using a larger water tank, a more powerful DC motor, and a stronger structure.
With these adjustments, the generator could produce enough electricity to power an entire household.
Designed to be flexible, the solution can be tailored to meet different energy needs, offering a simple water-based alternative for off-grid homes and schools.
This innovation highlights the power of local solutions in addressing everyday challenges faced by communities.
