Bindura now has the highest HIV prevalence rate in the province at 8.4 percent, driven by persistent hotspot areas such as Maganyani and Rutope, along with rising socio-economic activity.

The district has now surpassed traditionally high-burden areas like Mazowe, with most new infections being linked to identified high-risk zones.

Speaking during a media tour organised by the National AIDS Council of Zimbabwe and UNICEF Zimbabwe, District AIDS Coordinator Agripa Karuru said the increase is being fueled by expanding economic activity, high population mobility, and entrenched hotspot areas.

Authorities say the identified zones continue to face persistent risky behaviours and population movement, factors that are significantly contributing to the rise in new infections.

The update has renewed calls for stronger prevention campaigns, community awareness, and targeted interventions in hotspot districts.
