A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of a mother and her five children after their vehicle collided head-on with a haulage truck along the Masvingo-Harare Highway.
According to Zimbabwe Republic Police, the fatal crash occurred at the 246-kilometre peg while the family was travelling from Harare to Zvishavane in a Toyota Corolla.
National police spokesperson Paul Nyathi confirmed that all six occupants died on the spot.
Their bodies were taken to Masvingo Provincial Teaching Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle before it veered into the opposite lane and collided with the oncoming haulage truck.
Police say investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are still underway.
