South African composer Lebo M has reportedly begun steps toward a possible out-of-court settlement with Zimbabwean comedian Learnmore Jonasi.
The move signals a shift toward dialogue after weeks of legal tension and public debate over cultural intellectual property.
The dispute started after Jonasi’s comedic translation of the famous “Nants’ Ingonyama” chant went viral, prompting Lebo M to file a lawsuit in Los Angeles seeking $27 million in damages.
Sources say Lebo M’s team has now reached out to Jonasi, who is currently on tour, to explore a structured settlement process.
An independent intermediary has reportedly been appointed to help facilitate constructive talks between the two artists.
While the legal case remains active, the latest development suggests both sides may be open to resolving the matter through dialogue rather than a prolonged court battle.
