Veron Mosengo-Omba has resigned from his role as secretary general of the Confederation of African Football, marking another major development for the organisation.

Mosengo-Omba, who is from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, said he is stepping down to focus on personal projects.

In his statement, he said he was leaving with peace of mind after addressing allegations that had been raised against him, adding that he believes he leaves CAF in a stronger position.

His resignation comes during a tense period for African football governance, following recent controversy surrounding the Africa Cup of Nations final.

Although he did not directly mention the AFCON dispute in his statement, the timing of his departure is likely to intensify discussion around the organisation’s recent decisions.
