Support is growing for Zimbabwean comedian Learnmore Jonasi after his GoFundMe campaign surpassed $10,000 USD amid an ongoing legal battle.
The lawsuit, filed by South African producer Lebo M, is reportedly valued at $27 million and stems from a joke Jonasi made about the opening Zulu chant from The Lion King.
Lebo M, who performed the iconic “Nants’ingonyama bagithi Baba,” argues that the joke misrepresented its cultural meaning and damaged his reputation.
Jonasi, however, says the case has left him facing overwhelming legal costs, prompting him to launch the fundraiser as he prepares his defense.
The situation has sparked widespread debate online, with many rallying behind the comedian as the case continues to unfold.
