Health workers in Chitungwiza and Bindura have joined a growing nationwide strike by government nurses, as industrial action continues to gain momentum across Zimbabwe.

The protest is spreading through public health institutions, with nurses reporting that current salaries are no longer sufficient to meet basic living costs.

Sources within the healthcare sector say many nurses are earning around US$250 per month, with an additional portion paid in local ZiG currency. Workers argue that this combined income is not enough to cover essential expenses such as rent, transport, and utilities.

Some nurses have revealed the severity of the situation, stating that colleagues are now skipping meals during shifts due to financial constraints, as even basic food has become unaffordable.

The worsening economic pressure is driving more healthcare workers to join the strike, with calls growing louder for wages that reflect the rising cost of living.

The ongoing industrial action is raising concerns about service delivery in public hospitals as the situation continues to unfold.
