A Zimbabwean man accused of killing police officers in Zaka has now been sentenced to a combined 149 years in prison after receiving an additional 77 years behind bars for multiple serious crimes.
The suspect, Daniel Munyanyi, appeared in court again yesterday where he was convicted on 19 additional charges, including robbery, attempted murder, unlawful entry, and theft. The latest ruling comes just days after he had already been handed 72 years in prison for six robbery charges.
With the latest sentences added together, Munyanyi’s total prison term now stands at 149 years.
Authorities say the case is not yet fully concluded. Munyanyi is still expected to face two more murder charges, meaning the total sentence could exceed 200 years if he is convicted on those counts.
The accused gained national attention after allegedly shooting and killing two police officers who were attempting to arrest him in Zaka, Masvingo Province. The killings shocked communities and triggered a major police investigation that eventually led to his arrest and prosecution.
Law enforcement officials say the lengthy sentences reflect the serious nature of the crimes, particularly the violent attacks against police officers and the string of robberies linked to the suspect.
The case continues to draw public attention as the remaining murder charges are still pending before the courts, which could further increase the already lengthy prison sentence.
