Musa Nyasha Dube Manyika, a business development manager at Old Mutual, has been convicted on two counts of rape involving a University of Zimbabwe student who was an intern and scholarship recipient at the firm.
Harare regional magistrate Estere Chivasa delivered the guilty verdict following a full trial. Court proceedings heard that Manyika lured the student to his office in November 2022 under the pretext of assisting with promotional banners.
According to evidence presented in court, Manyika collected the student from campus and the assault occurred at Old Mutual Gardens. It was also alleged that he later attempted to appease the victim with company-branded merchandise and threatened to terminate her scholarship if she reported the incident.
Following the conviction, the case has now moved to a pre-sentencing hearing where the court will determine the appropriate penalty.
