Police in Bulawayo have launched a large-scale manhunt for a gang of suspected armed robbers who raided a Mukuru outlet earlier today, escaping with a substantial amount of foreign currency.
The daylight robbery occurred in the city’s business district and left the local community in shock as law enforcement officers cordoned off the area to collect evidence.
Preliminary reports indicate that the armed suspects arrived at the premises, overpowered staff and security personnel, and forced access to the safe. They reportedly fled with more than US$70,000 and R500,000 in cash. No fatalities were reported, but the speed and precision of the operation suggest a well-coordinated and organized attack.
Officers from the Zimbabwe Republic Police, including forensic specialists and detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department, are currently at the scene conducting interviews with witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from the outlet and nearby buildings.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to track down the suspects.
