The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of armed robbery suspect Daniel Munyanyi (50), who had been on the run after allegedly shooting and killing two police officers.
Munyanyi was arrested this afternoon while hiding in the Nyika area of Bikita, Masvingo Province. The arrest was effected with the assistance of members of the public. The firearm used in the commission of the murders has also been recovered.
ZRP has commended the residents of Nyika for their cooperation and support in ensuring the suspect’s capture.
The deceased officers have been identified as Detective Bernard Chindeke (38) and Detective McKenzie Chitowe (42). The two detectives had tracked armed robbery suspects to Ndume Village in Masvingo Province when the fatal shooting occurred.
