Member of Parliament Darlington Chiwa has been arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) following allegations that he misused public funds meant for community development. The arrest comes amid claims that Chiwa diverted Constituency Development Funds (CDF) for personal expenses, including beer, groceries and shoes.
According to ZACC, investigations uncovered a scheme in which the legislator allegedly manipulated constituency financial systems to access and spend funds intended for local projects. The money, which should have been used to support infrastructure and development initiatives within the constituency, is instead alleged to have been used for personal shopping sprees.
The arrest has sparked widespread reaction, with many citizens expressing concern over the continued abuse of public resources meant to uplift communities. Constituency Development Funds are designed to directly benefit residents through projects such as road rehabilitation, schools, clinics and other essential services.
ZACC confirmed that Chiwa is facing charges of theft, and the matter is now before the courts. Authorities say investigations are ongoing and further details will be released as the legal process unfolds. The case adds to growing scrutiny of public officials and reinforces calls for accountability and transparency in the management of public funds.
